A few weeks back I had the honour of being apart of CJ Beatz’s BBC Radio 1Xtra R&B Mix Show. CJ is one of my favourite DJs, he is one of the only DJs on the radio who isn’t afraid to show off with some cuts, juggles and personality – something specialist DJs are seriously lacking these days, It’s very refreshing to hear.
There is a feature on his show called Last Night A DJ Saved My Life (yes the famous lyric) It gives DJs a 15 minute slot to showcase what they do in the clubs to make people dance and also theres a little chat before hand too.
Dev – Dancing In The Dark
Diddy Dirty Money Ft. Swizz Beatz – Ass On The Floor
Clinton Sparks Ft. DJ Class & Jermaine Dupri – Favourite DJ
Clinton Sparks Ft. Sean Paul – Favourite DJ (Part 2)
Enur – Calabria
Brandy & Monica – The Boy Is Mine (Architechs Remix)
DJ SNAKE – Party All Day
Kardinal Offishall Ft. Pitbull, Lil Jon & Clinton Sparks – Smash The Club
Kat Deluna Ft. Fatman Scoop – Drop It Low
Katy B – Witches Brew
Foregin Beggers – Badman Riddim
Emeli Sande – Heaven

Last night/ this morning I had the honour of doing a guest mix on CJ Beatz’s show which goes out Monday night’s 1-4am. I’m a massive fan of this show, CJ is a seriously amazing DJ and I’ve been looking forward to getting involved since he asked me about 6 months ago.
Even though it’s the R&B Mix Show CJ tends to steer clear of the slow jamz and mellow tracks and his show has a real party vibe so for my mix I tried to roll with that. Tracks from Swizz Beatz, Clinton Sparks, Emeli Sande and even Monica & Brandy are all squeezed into 15 minutes.
If you missed it then I highly recommend you clicking here to listen back on the iPlayer and scroll to 1 hour 45 minute mark for the mix and also a little chat before as well.
I’ll post up the mix as a download next week!

Every Thursday night in an underground arts club in the heart of Notting Hill, London magic of a musical form takes place. Only the best get the honour of singing there, amazing DJ’s get to play records you wouldn’t hear in any Oceana or Liquid, this is the heart of real music and the place for real music lovers as I discovered on my first visit last night to the famous YOYO night.
Thursday night, 22nd September 2011 I get to the door of the venue, I’m on the record labels list, naturally the bouncers don’t believe a baby faced One Direction look a like and tell me to get to the back of the queue which is about an hour long, after a bit of work I made them believe me, sure enough there was my name. The “club” on first glance is more of an underground hide out with a round bar in the middle and, on the other side a dance floor with a stage and the males toilets which stink of, well yes you can imagine. The DJ is playing some classic hip hop, it’s fairly quiet and so is the music but sure enough the place begins to fill and the music gets louder. DJ Greenslade is playing the likes of The Game Let’s Ride and Mobb Deep Put Em In Their Place – need I say anymore.
At 10:40ish 19 year old Delilah gets onto the stage with her band, all I could see were her legs and a big speaker blocking her face but it was the voice I was listening to and I liked what I heard. Naturally everyone wanted to hear the impressive Go being sung live and yes, it sounds exactly the same as It does on the recording, she could have easily been miming, she wasn’t of course. She was a natural not just vocally but she looked calm on stage and she had the crowd captivated, a winning performance from a girl everyone has very high hopes for.
It was also good to see some familiar faces who I hadn’t seen in a while, the 1Xtra team were out in full force, Sandy, Rhodri, Nick Bright, Austin and MistaJam. I also got to meet Sincere, a rapper everyone will have heard of very soon.
Special thanks to Jason and also Mel from Atlantic Records.
Overall a great night with good people.

I get asked sooo many times about work experience, working within the media and who to speak to etc. I’ve made this video to hopefully answer all the common questions.
Skepta passed through Westwood’s 1Xtra show recently and banter went down…
