I’ve looked back at my music highlights of the year, now it’s time to look at my personal highlights from the last 12 months.

This year I’ve taken huge leaps in my radio career, last year I was on the radio 0 times, this year I’ve managed to secure shows on not one but two radio stations.

Feb 2013 saw me join The Hits Radio, I began presenting Sundays 10-midnight for a few weeks before moving to 7-10pm, after a few months in this ‘new music’ slot I was asked to present the Monday-Thursday, 10-midnight Late Show. I decided I HAD to make this show fun and engaging for my listeners, as a result of the #LateNightCrew the RAJAR figures (radio listening figures), were some of the stations highest, I’m very proud of that fact!

Around the same time, in July, I approached KISS FM, one of the biggest commercial radio stations in the UK boasting 5.5 million listeners. I was invited in for a demo, shorlty after I was asked to cover Sat & Sun 6-10am, “WHAT?!” was my initial reaction – me, on KISS, actual KISS, the station I grew up listening to?! WOW. This was a moment, I had dreamt of this day for a good 7 years. People always say, “Don’t worry, your time will come,” sure enough, my time came. After those two shows I began doing more and more cover work which eventually progressed into me being offered my own weekend shows, Sat 1-4pm and Sunday 10am-2pm. Hard work = payed off.

Back to The Hits Radio, I was still presenting my Late Show. After a few months on this slot I was asked to take over from James Everton, James presented Monday-Friday 3-7pm, yes, the BIG drive show! I had to sit on it for quite a while, this was a big decision, The Hits are based up in Manchester and I lived in London, could I juggle both stations? Turns out, yes I can!

So now, after 3 years away from radio, studying at university and thinking “gaaah, will my moment ever come?! Shall I get a normal job? Am I actually crap at this radio thing?”, I’m back on air every single day to 6.5 million listeners in total. That’s something I’m very proud of.

With The Hits I was lucky enough to do some cool stuff for The National Citizen Service or NCS. We teamed up with them on a campaign about saying “yes,” this meant that I had to say yes to doing things like this…

This year I also got to speak to some very nice artists/ celebs. Olly Murs, Miley Cyrus, London Grammar, Bastille, Little Mix, Ella Eyre, Icona Pop, Rizzle Kicks, Nina Nesbitt, Iggy Azalea, Union J and loads more.

One of my fave interviews was with Bastille, they had my favourite album of the year and Dan & Will from the band were a delight to chat with.

Part 1

Part 2

I also loved speaking with Dan, Dot and Hannah from London Grammar. They are serious musicians but weren’t afraid of having a laugh in this interview…

Another fave was with Mr Olly Murs, this was my first of two interviews with him this year…

2013 has been a very good year for my Podcast too. I’ve showcased fresh talent from around the world, thanks to your downloads and subscriptions it’s been the biggest year yet. If you aren’t already subscribed to my bi-weekly Podcast then get involved, it’s free, just click here!

Thanks to everyone who has made this year a huge one, I’m bloody knackered but it’s all been worth it.

Hard work pays off. See you on the other side :)
