Asher Roth has released what seems a very spontaneous music video for his track Dope Shit from the Pabst & Jazz mixtape. I say it every time I post about Asher but he is hands down one of the coolest guys I’ve met. He just wants to make good music and no one can fight that.

Thursday night the action was down at the infamous Jazz Cafe in Camden. Who’s on the bill? None other than Asher Roth. An artist who has had his fair share of ups and downs over the past year, a major smash with I Love College, an album which he didn’t like, a label who didn’t understand him, leaving a label, breaking up with his girlfriend, signing with Def Jam and releasing a sick mixtape infused with Hip Hop and Jazz elements.
Doors opened at 7 but Asher’s amazing DJ Wreckineyez gave me the heads up that stage time was 9:30, sure enough there he was. The lions maine still intact on his head since my last meet with him late 2010.
The crowd scream. Its funny, its mainly guys, white guys I might add, wearing caps backwards and with empty backpacks on, what’s with that by the way? There were of course the fan girls at the front. One of which joined him on stage for a dance during Blunt Crusin’ – there was a lot of talk about the ‘good stuff.’
The show itself was crazy, seriously tight with Wreck on the 1′s and 2′s – I wish I could scratch like him, as well as a drummer and bassist, the Jazz sprinkled on the new material works a dream! As well as performing tracks from that he also did Lark On My Go Kart, a personal favourite of mine. There were a few random moments of madness when Asher really got into it, you could tell that he was so comfortable doing this new material and he was vibing off the crow who were loving every second. Occasionally he would break into a rock esque throw about involving a lot of jumping and a lot of hair. More than one stage dive’s were included in those random moments.
I’ve never been to a show like that though, where the artist go mad at EVERY track, fair enough the set was literally 45 minutes but even so. You could really tell that this is what Asher wants to be doing, performing music he’s most comfortable with in front of crowds which will really appreciate it.Who can blame him?
After the show I went back to say hi and he was chatting to a few girls explaining the label situation. Basically saying, you give them your soul and they often give you nothing. It must be a horrible situation to be in. On stage he also said “music and business should never mix,” true words.
Overall this show was exactly what every Roth fan wanted. It was an early show but the crowd loved every moment and finishing up with I Love College was the perfect end, well, I say the end, the encore went on for another 10 minutes which was unplanned but no one was complaining where I was standing. The crowd wanted more and more they got.
I’m seriously looking forward to hearing the new album which drops in March. I’ve got a feeling this will be a must listen and an overall great 2012 for Asher Roth.
Have a listen to the conversation I had with Asher late 2012.
Thanks to DJ Wreckineyez & Asher.

One of my favourite rappers and possibly the coolest guy I’ve met Asher Roth will be back on stage in the UK next year. Having recently signed to Def Jam (big deal!) Asher will also be touring the states before performing at London’s Jazz Cafe on the 12th January along with my dude DJ Wreckineyez. The tour will be in the run up to his next project Pabst & Jazz Sessions.
Last year I caught up with Mr Roth whilst watching American Football in his hotel room, have a listen to the interview if you haven’t before, it gives a great idea of how chilled this man is.

Any excuse to post up content involving Asher Roth and I’m there. This is a really cool video hot by the illroots collective, the track is taken from Ashers forthcoming mixtap.

At first I really didn’t like this, then I warmed to it and now I really really like it, a lot. The guitar riff, Ashers amazing flow and even Akon on the hook, it all makes sense to me.
The video concept is insane, these are no standard visuals and it’s things like this which stand Asher apart from the rest. Now where’s that bloody album?
I’ve got a lot of time for Asher. He’s a really down to earth, focused guy who has great intentions. This track is perfect for the summer.

The return of Asher Paul Roth. At the end of last year I sat down with the man himself and he was telling me that new material was in the process of being written and recorded. This is taken off the Asher Roth and Nottz collaborative The Rawth EP. Video directed by Luke Tedaldi, I like it a lot.

I’ve had a musical look back at the year of 2010 and now its time for my own personal look back at the things I have achieved and done this year – basically a big ego boost for me.

The first week of 2010 was a great one for me, I was back on BBC Radio 1Xtra for the first weekend of the year and also in Feburary presenting the Weekend Breakfast Show. In May I was presenting for two weeks on the Chart Show which was really amazing and a lot of fun. A lot has been going on behind the scenes in terms of my radio work and It has really become clear to me this half of the year how sometimes I won’t achieve what other people are looking for, at the end of the day trying to please one person isn’t always possible but me knowing that I still love and live radio will get me to where I want to be eventually, just a bit more work to go! I’ve had my dream since I was eight years old and nothing is going to stop me getting to where I need to get.
At the beginning of the year I was still doing work with Mini Viva before they decided to go their seperate ways. In April we performed on Channel 4 programme KoKo Pop which was recorded at the famous KoKo venue in Camden to promote their single One Touch
My childhood dreams came true in May when we performed on childrens TV show Blue Peter. For those who live in the UK you will know how much of a big deal this is, every child grew up wishing they had a Blue Peter badge and this year I achieved that! It was a big day and one I will never ever forget. Click here to watch the videos from the day.
From April I began DJing for IYAZ during his promo for his follow up single from the massive Replay which was Solo. The first show we did together was on KoKo Pop again for Channel 4. I was really excited that day, he was an established name and was still getting a lot of love for his first single success so I was proud to be apart of the team. We did a load of TV promotion again in May with performances on The 5:19 Show on BBC 2, the biggest breakfast show in the UK on GMTV, Studio Five Live on Channel 5 and a recording for News of The World online.

In July we did our first audience performance with at Channel 4′s T4 on The Beach. There was a crowd of 60,000 people so this was a very, very big and exciting weekend. I met a lot of people I admire and it was fair to say it was a crazy weekend. Click here and here to view the photos from the weekend.
Here are the video diaries I did over the weekend.

In September IYAZ was back over in the UK but this time with Charice to promote their duet smash Pyramid. This track was huge in the US, Charice was discovered by the queen aka Oprah so shes kind of a big deal. We performed on MTV’s Suck My Pop, the afternoon show on ITV Loose Women and on Channel 5′s Studio Five Live. We also performed So Big which was the latest release from IYAZ on the MTV show. It was another crazy experience in this weird and wonderful world.
I’ve also had the honour of interviewing some people who I really admire – Tinchy Stryder and Asher Roth. The interview with Tinchy was all planned and organised to take place and was aimed to be around the release of his street single Gangsta? but the Asher interview was totally off the cuff and random. Me and my manager just ended up in Ashers hotel room and I happened to have some recording equipment on me – sometimes life is good to me like that.
I’ve also been the voice behind Kelly Rowland’s two single TV adverts this year – Commander and Forever and a Day.
So there it was, 2010 through my eyes and what a year its been. There has been so many ups and a few downs too but those downs only make me want to work even harder to achieve what I want so much and who knows, maybe 2011 will let me get it.

Today was one of those days which makes me think “I actually love my job.” I was heading into the westend of London to meet and chat with my manager when he said he was going to meet with a friend of his, little did I know he was Asher Roths manager and next minute we were all chilling and chatting in his hotel room. I happened to have some recording equipment with me that I was using for a University project so I decided to wack out my 1970′s mic and speak to Mr Roth. He’s such a cool guy who really is in this industry for all the right reasons, he just wants to make good, healthy, fun and real music and I’m all for that.
We talked American and English football, the next album and Bieber.

Firstly, what a brilliant title for a mixtape, 10/10 to Asher purley for the name,
Secondly, it’s great to see new music from Asher. It’s been a fair few months since he dropped his debut ‘Asleep In The Bread Aisle’ – I might have to re visit that!
Thirldly, I haven’t yet checked out this mixtape myself so let’s do it together shall we.
